According to data published by Greenpeace, 50% of plastic packaging purchased in Spain ends up in landfills. This is a truly alarming figure, especially if we consider that most of them could have been recycled.
On the other hand, every year more than 2100 million tons of waste are generated in the world, according to an article published by the BBC. These numbers must invite us to reflection and action.
1. Energy and climate change
When we recycle we are directly reducing the tasks of extraction, transfer and production of new products and raw materials, which leads to energy savings. Less energy use is care for non-renewable resources.
2. Raw materials
Plastic, glass and paper are the most widely used raw materials. By recycling objects made from these materials we reduce the need for new substances to make different products.
3. New objects
From recycling arise new elements that, otherwise, we would have to acquire and are made from raw material not used before. For example, disused tires are used to make roads, to manufacture thermal and acoustic insulators, among other purposes.
4. Environment
Recycling we take care of the environment in different ways:
- Air: we reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.
- Water: garbage does not end up contaminating groundwater.
- Earth: we take care of the natural habitat of flora and fauna.
How to Recycle Shampoo Bottles: Beyond Crafts
As we have seen in this article, we can create very original and useful objects starting only from shampoo bottles that were already considered waste. Think that, otherwise, you should have bought a pencil holder made of new raw material.
Apart from the crafts that are very fun and practical, the important thing is that you are contributing from your place to take care of our planet. From what you can do, much or little, everything adds up.
If you don’t know what else to do with shampoo bottles, separate them with plastics and take them to the nearest recycling center. It is for your good and that of everyone.
