These tests work in many different ways and can take many forms. A while ago they were much in the news and on social media. Your favourite influencers have probably promoted it on their Instagram or YouTube and you have probably heard of it as well. Because it is so well-known, and has remained so, we want to tell you about it. Despite this familiarity, many people still do not know what types of DNA tests are available. We are going to help you with this, we are going to give you clarity. In this blog you will therefore read exactly what types of DNA tests are available. We will discuss two of the many, but unfortunately we cannot cover everything.
Paternity test
First, the at home dna test. This test is used to establish the paternity of a child. This test cannot be used for legal purposes, for which it should be taken in a safe environment under the supervision of professionals. A DNA sample from the (alleged) father and also from the child is required. This can even be done during pregnancy in a non-invasive way. Either blood or mucus is taken. Both ways do not hurt and it is therefore done quickly. In case of a home test, you have to send the sample afterwards so that it can be analysed by professionals. It is compared and checked whether there is a match.
Sperm count test
Okay, the second and final test. The name of this test says it all; it looks at the amount of sperm cells in a man’s sperm. This is important for the conception of a child. A woman becomes pregnant when a fertile sperm cell meets a fertile egg cell through sexual intercourse. The egg is fertilised and the woman becomes pregnant. If all goes well, a baby is then born. Some people have difficulty conceiving or want to be sure that it can work at all. A home sperm count test is then carried out. The sperm has to be sent to the lab by the man and is then tested for fertility. You will then receive a result that will give you more clarity about the future.
